April Spotlight Patient
Meet Lynn Ballard
I have been overweight all of my life, even at 10 years old.
Now at age 55, I was facing many life-altering health conditions. For the last several years, I have had herniated discs in my lower back. With my weight at 247, there was no way for my back to get any better. I was being continually treated by my Chiropractor, but he was very blunt in telling me I had to get the weight off, for my own good.
I, like everyone else, had tried every diet, every program, every pill, even including Phen-Fen. I was being treated for depression and high blood pressure. I have diabetes in my family, so it was just a matter of time until I developed that as well.
I signed up for the seminars at Georgetown. I learned a lot about the options for surgery. Unfortunately my insurance would not pay for surgery, so that option died, along with my hopes for a better life. A year later, I had different insurance and I tried again for surgery approval. This time, I was approved!
I underwent gastric bypass surgery. I had higher than normal bleeding, and received units of blood during my hospital stay, but that has been my only issue.
Now, 14 months later, I have met my personal goal of weighing 150 pounds, and only need to lose 3 more to hit the 100 pound mark.
All my meds are gone! I am a stickler about having my vitamins every day, but what a relief to be rid of my depression and my high blood pressure. My Chiropractor misses me! I now go only for maintenance, not problems!
What a relief it has been. I can walk and climb stairs without becoming winded, I can tie my shoes straight-on, I can do anything I want to!
Without Georgetown Bariatrics and Dr Tom, my life would still be spiraling out of control, but instead, I am healthy again, and ABSOLUTELY HAPPY. It's the best decision I have ever made.
